چکیده

An overview of Monte Carlo as a practical method for designing and analyzing radiation detectors is provided. The emphasis is on detectors for radiation that is either directly or indirectly ionizing. This overview paper reviews some of the fundamental aspects of Monte Carlo, briefly addresses simulation of radiation transport by the Monte Carlo method, discusses the differences between direct and inverse detection problems, and illustrates how various Monte Carlo methods can be used in design and analysis of radiation detectors. & 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Developing a software for simulation of gaseous detectors with Monte carlo method in c++ programming language

In this paper we consider a gaseous detector and supposed, because of pass of an ionizing radiation, an electron created inside it. By numerical simulation with monte carlo method and concluding the impacts, scatterings and creation of secondary electrons, we find the trajectory of initial and secondary electrons. Dependence of number of secondary electrons to applied electrical field is invest...

Unfolding X-ray spectrum in the diagnostic range using the Monte Carlo Code MCNP5

Introduction: Unfolding X-ray spectrum is a powerful tool for quality control of X-ray tubes. Generally, the acquisition of the X-ray spectrum in diagnostic radiology departments is complicated and difficult due to high photon flux. Measurement of x ray spectra using radiation detectors could not be performed accurately, because of the pulse pile up. Therefore, indirect methods...

Estimation of Dosimetric Parameters based on KNR and KNCSF Correction Factors for Small Field Radiation Therapy at 6 and 18 MV Linac Energies using Monte Carlo Simulation Methods

Background: Estimating dosimetric parameters for small fields under non-reference conditions leads to significant errors if done based on conventional protocols used for large fields in reference conditions. Hence, further correction factors have been introduced to take into account the influence of spectral quality changes when various detectors are used in non-reference conditions at differen...

Experimental and Monte Carlo studies on the response of CR-39 detectors to Am-Be neutron spectrum

Background: The Poly-Allyl Diglycol Carbonate (PADC) detector is of particular interest for development of a fast neutron dosimeter. Fast neutrons interact with the constituents of the CR-39 detector and produce H, C and O recoils, as well as (n, α) reaction. These neutron- induced charged particles contribute towards the response of CR-39 detectors. Material and Methods: Electrochemical...

Comparison of ScintSim1 and Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation codes for optical photon transport in thick segmented scintillator arrays

Introduction: Arrays of segmented scintillation crystals are useful in megavoltage x-ray imaging detectors for image-guided radiotherapy. Most previous theoretical studies on these detectors have modelled only ionizing-radiation transport. Scintillation light also affects detector performance. ScintSim1, our previously reported optical Monte Carlo code for such detector...
